Knee Replacements

There are many reasons why one might be in need of a knee replacement. The most common is as a result of Osteoarthritis or injury.

Most often, the surgeon will recommend one to see a physiotherapist both before and after surgery. This is to allow the person in need of a knee replacement to get their knee into the best shape possible to minimize surgical complications, heal well and heal quickly. Prior to surgery, the focus is often on making sure there is as much functional strength and range of motion as possible so that less is lost in the healing process. After surgery, the focus shifts to regaining the strength/range of motion one had, improving it, managing swelling, gait retraining, and pain management.
